The South Southeast region of Mexico - conformed by the states of Campeche, Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Veracruz and Yucatan - is one of the richest and most diverse of the country, it concentrates almost a third of Mexico’s population. However, it is the least developed region, with low economic growth and a major challenge in terms of wealth distribution.

It is in this context that FIDESUR arises, its purpose is to contribute to the construction of a shared regional vision, as well as to establish a strategy for the full development of the region. This project wants to contribute so that governments and public, private and social institutions, act together in the identification of opportunity areas.

Since it came into operation in 2002, FIDESUR has promoted and financed more than 290 projects of various kinds. We are currently working on the implementation of six initiatives: attracting foreign investment in selected global value chains; promoting short sea shipping services;a program for the recovery and development of coffee-growing areas; a regional program for adaptation to climate change; interurban link infrastructure projects and rural-urban integration.
